FRÜT LOVESEAT

Originally conceived for ‘HARD,’ a group exhibition featured as part of Melbourne Design Week 2022, the Früt Loveseat is composed of 32 hand-blown glass tubes, and a repurposed hard-rubbish bed frame.

The Früt Loveseat reimagines the scavenged and restored ensemble bed frame, while retaining its original ‘rainbow’ headboard motif. With 32 hand-blown glass cylinders comprising a precarious and unorthodox cushioned seat, the Früt Loveseat references themes of queer coming of age, sexuality, nostalgia, and anxiety. The playful use of colour in the piece is reflective of personal queer identity, with colour being an important signifier for queer self-expression.
