FRÜT LOVESEAT

Originally conceived for ‘HARD,’ a group exhibition featured as part of Melbourne Design Week 2022, the Früt Loveseat is composed of 32 hand-blown glass tubes, and a repurposed hard-rubbish bed frame.

The Früt Loveseat combines a retro, hard-rubbish ensemble bed frame, with Yeend Studio’s signature medium of blown-glass. In modifying the frame into a new loveseat form, retaining its original ‘rainbow’ headboard motif, and unorthodox inclusion of a precarious, blown-glass pillar cushion, the Früt Loveseat suggests a tongue-in- cheek narrative with references to queer coming of age, sexuality, nostalgia, and anxiety. The playful use of colour in the piece is also reflective of personal queer identity, as colour is an important signifier for queer self- expression.
